Yoga & Sacred Dance with Leila Currah

Saturday, July 21, 2018

This workshop is about finding your flow state to experience healing, self-connection, and integration through authentic movement expression. We will balance the discipline and focus of yoga with the fluidity and spontaneity of free-form movement, and integrate our experiences through sound healing at the culmination of the workshop.

We will begin with an hour of gentle flow yoga to warm the body and help access a receptive, meditative state, followed by an hour of dance-as-awareness-practice.

We’ll move the mats aside and invite you into a gently-guided phase of liberated free-form movement. There’s no one way to practice this sacred dance. If you choose to find stillness or meditate or walk slowly around the room, these choices are all yours to make. The invitation is simple – to dive inwards and find the place inside your body where magic is alive, and to drink deeply there of its power, to find your intuition, and your own self-expressive movement.

This Sacred Dance is free-form movement in the sanctuary of respectful community.

We’ll wind down through meditation and sound healing, and finally close our practice in circle to bring closure to our experience together.

Come as you are.

Facilitator

Leila is a yoga teacher and movement artist, with a deep interest in the power of mindful movement practices to bring individual and collective healing. She is passionate about finding ways to reintroduce the sacred dimensions of movement to a culture which is less familiar with community dance experiences. She has been influenced by years of practice with 5Rhythms, Spirit Moves, and Dance Tribe in Los Angeles, through contemporary dance classes in San Diego, and Modern, African, and Afro-Brazilian dance in Santa Barbara. Her aim as a teacher is always to facilitate experiences which feel safe and supportive, and to cultivate mindfulness, integration, and connection. More at www.leilacurrah.com
